Blog 8 – December 2023 – Airdrops – Linea & Orbiter Finance

Everywhere you look right now, its Airdrops. Crypto Twitter and YouTube is flooded with content. The recent news about the JTO, JUP and PYTH airdrops that netted people in excess of $15,000+, is seriously starting to give me FOMO. It’s for that reason I am dedicating this month to airdrop farming.

With that said, I can’t help but shake the feeling that I may be late to the party, with many snapshots already taken or campaigns finished. What hope do I have throwing a few $100 towards this when those that benefited from those aforementioned now have $15k to use. My portfolio is up $2k/35% in 2 months, and I cant help but feel like its a massive underperformance against everyone else in the space! I can’t think of any other investment or space, where you would make 35% return and be disappointed. I love it.

On we march. the following is a video I found very useful – as I am sure many others have….

Its almost impossible to know where to start, but from this I am starting with the Linea Protocol . I have missed the first 4 waves on this, but am hopeful nonetheless, and will see this through until the end.

Whilst completing these tasks, I needed to bridge some Eth across from the ethereum network to the linea network. I did this using Orbiter Finance, and stumbled upon a quest on the site to build points which ends December 18th. In the spirit of trying to qualify I proceeded to bridge between chains multiple times to satsify criteria. I spent quite a bit on gas, and a quick look through the transactions I am sure will make seasoned pros sick. The following is a thread that covers the voyage:

I have completed all of the tasks – 150 points worth:

In order to do the above, I have used the $500 added for the month and put it directly as eth to the wallet. In addition, I have called time on my RDNT staking. Frustratingly, I was early to the party with the locking of dlp, and therefore did not qualify for the Arbitrum airdrop/sharing. Way to reward those original users! If I’m honest, the $18 I was making in rdnt tokens on a USDC deposit that was getting eaten in borrow fees, was hardly impressive with the other opportunities in the market I was forgoing. Maybe my risk tolerance is increasing, I could becoming reckless, or as Warren Buffet never said, its just a case of you’ve got to “risk it to get the biscuit”….

Summary and Thoughts

Qualifying for airdrops is not for everyone. I found the above quite time consuming and clunky. I am sure there are far more experienced people who whizz through it, spend less on gas etc, and have a real fun time. If you told me that I was definitely going to get a $5k airdrop for this or that, sign me up. Of course the risk is I spend valuable time I could be using to research other tokens, and spend a load of gas and effort on qualifying for things too late/or not qualifying at all.

That has got me thinking. In a world where AI is set to take over, why isn’t there a computer or bot i can just click a button and have it complete the swaps/bridge/liquidity etc for me. Surely there has to be an easier way. And that thought is what will lead me to my riskiest investment to date. A transaction that as I sit here is down 33% in 4 hours….. I am assured by the 900 telegram users though that “we are so early!”. Until then.

It goes without saying nothing on this site or anything associated with Happy Crypto Wanderer is or should be taken as financial advice. This site tracks the hopeful journey of one everyday punter just trying to live out a dream. Come back here every month so you can track the journey. Any and all feedback is much appreciated. If you feel so strongly that you’d like me to stop at any time, a large enough donation to this wallet so I can reach my goal could make all this disappear.
